Greek Church agrees to deposition of Russian Orthodox Exarch in Africa

The Holy Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church on February 8, 2023, voted to depose Metropolitan Leonid (Gorbachev), the ROC Exarch in Africa, reports the GOC official website.
A press release following the Synod said that the Synod was informed about a message from Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria, which said about the deposition of the Exarch of the Russian Orthodox Church in Africa, Metropolitan Leonid.
The Holy Synod made a unanimous decision, "according to the ancient Church order", to send a circular "on the above deposition" to the Archdiocese of Athens and to all the metropolises of the Greek Church.
As reported, the Synod of the Church of Alexandria defrocked Metropolitan Leonid of Klin.
