“We ask you to leave the monks in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and give them the opportunity to continue praying for the country and Ukrainians,” Metropolitan Pavel, Metropolitan Anthony and the brethren of the monastery addressed the President, the Cabinet and the people of Ukraine with these words. The video message was posted on March 14, 2023 on the YouTube channel of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
“Now there are historical, epoch-making events. Do those in power really want to go down in history as villains and persecutors of the Church: Diocletian, Trojan, Maximian? Let these people think about their place they will take in the history of the universe,” the monks say.
Earlier, the abbot of the Lavra said that the brethren would not leave the monastery of their own free will.
