On October 10, 2020, the Roman Catholic Church beatified 15-year-old Carlo Akutis, whom his peers call the "Cyber Apostle". The ceremony of beatification, which is usually preceded by canonization in the Catholic Church, was officiated by the representative of the Pope, Cardinal Agostino Vallini, according to the Siberian Catholic newspaper.

The ceremony took place in Assisi and was broadcast live.

Carlo Akutis, who died of leukemia in 2006 at the age of 15, became the first in Millennial or Generation Y (generation of people born from 1981 to 1996, which is characterized by deep involvement in digital technology – Ed.) to be beatified by the RCC.

He is known for the fact that during his lifetime, despite his young age, he was an exemplary Catholic and actively preached on the Internet. In particular, he created a site-catalog of "Eucharistic miracles", for which he had specially studied programming.

Peers of Carlo Akutis call him the "Cyber Apostle", while the Catholic Church believes that his life can serve as an example for today's youth, reports Euronews.

“Young people today are not easy to get interested in the pastoral ministry,” the publication quotes the words of the RCC representatives. “To do this, one needs to keep pace with the times. But sometimes the Lord shows us the way with the help of such beacons as Carlo was.”

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that "the RCC may have a patron saint of the Internet". To impart "incorruptibility" to the body of Carlo Akutis, who died 14 years ago, the RCC used silicone.
