Member of Parliament from the "Servant of the People" party, Yevhenia Kravchuk, stated that 1,200 amendments had been introduced to draft law No. 8371, which provides for the prohibition of the UOC, ahead of its second reading. She made this announcement in a comment to Ukrinform.
Kravchuk noted that the parliamentary committee on information policy had already held its first meeting to review the amendments proposed by committee members. Representatives of the DESS and its head, Viktor Yelensky, were present during the session.
The parliamentarian explained that some of the committee members' amendments are aimed at "preventing protracted legal proceedings" in the implementation of the draft law.
"These are currently working discussions, and no decisions have been made by the committee yet, but we will work intensively on the relevant draft law. The scope of amendments does not deter us," she added.
Kravchuk also mentioned that members of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and employees of the Ministry of Justice would be involved in refining the draft law.
As a reminder, the Verkhovna Rada voted in favor of prohibiting the UOC.
As previously reported by the UOJ, the head of the "Servant of the People" party faction wrote to MPs during the vote on the ban of the UOC, stating that the adoption of the draft law is a task from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
