On January 10, Metropolitan of Chernivtsi and Bukovyna Meletiy (Yegorenko) led the Divine Liturgy and consecrated a temporary Church of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos in the village of Horoshivtsi in the Zastavna district, Chernivtsi region, reports the Chernivtsi-Bukovyna Eparchy.

Metropolitan Meletiy was concelebrated by the parish rector, Archpriest Fyodor Korol, the dean of the Zastavna district, Mitred Archpriest Mikhail Slyvchuk, and the clergy of the Chernivtsi-Bukovyna Eparchy.

Metropolitan Meletiy expressed support for the parishioners in their steadfastness and loyalty to God and congratulated them on the Nativity of Christ.

Two years ago, on January 20, 2019, OCU activists, with the support of local authorities, illegally seized the church of the UOC in the village of Horoshivtsi, Zastavna district. At the meeting where the fate of the temple was decided, supporters of the OCU from different villages who had nothing to do with the temple voted to go to the OCU.

As previously reported, the UOC community in Horoshivtsi is building a church in place of the seized by the OCU.
