Nine hierarchs of the Roman Catholic Church in Malawi, Africa, disagree with the Vatican's decision on blessing same-sex unions, according to kath.net. They stated that "blessings of any kind for same-sex unions are not allowed in Malawi for pastoral reasons."
In their "Clarification" dated December 19, 2023, the Catholic bishops of Malawi write that they are doing this "because we have become aware of erroneous interpretations of the Declaration (on the blessing of same-sex unions – Ed.), which have aroused interest, fear, and concern both among Catholics and those who turn to the Catholic Church for moral, spiritual, and doctrinal guidance."
The hierarchs of Malawi emphasize that "marriage, in the understanding of the Catholic Church, remains a permanent, indissoluble, and exclusive union between a man and a woman, intended for the birth of children."
Earlier, the Vatican allowed priests of the Roman Catholic Church to bless same-sex couples, but hierarchs of the Roman Catholic Church in Kazakhstan prohibited their clergy from doing so.
