His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry congratulated Metropolitan Porfirije on his election to the Serbian Patriarchal throne, reports the UOC Information and Education Department.
“From the fullness of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and from my humbleness personally, accept my heartfelt congratulations on the election and enthronement to the Primate Throne of Serbian Patriarchs,” the head of the UOC said in his congratulatory message.
His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry expressed the hope that in this difficult time when pan-Orthodox unity is in crisis, Patriarch Porfirije will be able to preserve canonical unity.
“By the Providence of God, the action of the Holy Spirit, you have been placed in the Primate ministry of the Most Holy Serbian Orthodox Church in a difficult time, when pan-Orthodox unity is in a deep crisis, and Christian values throughout the world are levelled out and replaced by ideas of false humanism. However, knowing you as a worthy archpastor, an irreproachable leader, correctly teaching the word of truth (2 Tim. 2:15), as well as a proponent of the preservation of canonical order in the Orthodox Church, we rejoice together with the fullness of the Holy Serbian Church for your election and pray for granting you fortitude and strength to fulfil the high and responsible Primate ministry entrusted to you,” His Beatitude Onuphry noted.
“With this, we hope that the good fraternal relations that have developed between the Serbian and Ukrainian Orthodox Churches will develop and strengthen in Christ during your Primate ministry,” added the Primate of the UOC.
As reported, on February 18, 2021, at the Council of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Porfirije (Perić) of Zagreb-Ljubljana was elected a new Patriarch of the Serbian Church.
