KDAiS to host conference dedicated to the memory of Metropolitan Volodymyr

On April 2, 2024, with the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kyiv and All Ukraine, the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary (KDAiS) will hold the XIII Annual Student Conference "Student Science in the Spiritual School".
This year, the conference will be dedicated to two prominent church figures of the second half of the 20th to the beginning of the 21st century – His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr (Sabodan) and Archpriest Petro Vlodek.
This dedication owes to the 10th anniversary of the repose of His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr (Sabodan, 1935-2014), the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and the 100th anniversary of the birth of Archpriest Petro Vlodek (1924-2017), who was the first rector of the revived Kyiv Theological Seminary in 1989-1991.
During the annual conference, students will have the opportunity to present and test the results of their research. The conference will include sections on biblical, theological, historical, and church-practical topics.
Conference Topics:
I. The Fate of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine in the 20th - early 21st centuries:
- The feat of martyrdom and confession in the conditions of the atheist regime;
- Problematic issues of studying the history of persecutions against the Church in the Soviet period;
- The history of the Orthodox Church in independent Ukraine (late 20th - early 21st century);
- The Orthodox Church facing modern challenges.
II. Biblical Section:
- Current problems of modern biblical studies;
- The history of the text of the Slavic Bible;
- Domestic tradition of studying the Bible;
- Ukrainian translations of the Holy Scriptures: history and modernity.
III. Theological Section:
- Theological understanding of current problems of modernity;
- The theological legacy of the new martyrs and confessors of the 20th century;
- Scientific-theological legacy of KDAiS professors.
IV. Historical Section:
- History of spiritual schools;
- Orthodox advocates of piety in the 19th - early 20th centuries;
- The feat of the new martyrs and confessors of the 20th century;
- Ecclesiastical local history;
- History of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine in the 20th century.
V. Church-Practical Section:
- Current problems of modern church preaching;
- Development of church legislation;
- History and theology of church sacraments;
- Christian traditions of national pedagogy.
Students from both spiritual and theological and secular educational institutions are invited to participate. Participation can be in person or online.
Working languages of the conference: Ukrainian.
Presentation time limit: up to 15 minutes.
Venue: Ukraine, Kyiv, Kyiv Theological Academy.
Meals and accommodation for conference participants are provided by the hosting party. Travel expenses are covered by the sending party.
