The meeting at the pan-Orthodox level is a real opportunity to solve the church problem in Ukraine, said the Chancellor of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Anthony (Pakanich) of Boryspil and Brovary, at a press conference at the Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra on Thursday, April 8, 2021.
“We saw that the need for dialogue between the Local Orthodox Churches is probably the only possible and real step in order to resolve the issue in Ukraine and, of course, try to restore the unity of the pan-Orthodox world, which is now under threat,” said Metropolitan Anthony. “And in the statement of Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem on the occasion of the anniversary of the Amman meeting, it was said that this is the platform that gives us hope for the restoration of the unity that we are gradually beginning to lose”.
According to the UOC Chancellor, now much depends on the pandemic that has swept the whole world and does not allow us to really engage in the preparation of a new meeting at the pan-Orthodox level.
However, he is convinced that such a meeting will give an opportunity to solve the problems that have arisen, “despite the fact that the Phanar is against it, it is clear that questions will first of all be addressed to Patriarch Bartholomew since it is precisely in his actions that the cause of our problems in Ukraine lies, this is transmitted to the pan-Orthodox level as well”.
Earlier the head of the UOC said that the main and most difficult problem in inter-Orthodox relations is the new ecclesiology of the Phanar.
