Robert Amsterdam, head of the legal firm Amsterdam & Partners LLP and American lawyer, commented in his X on the increasing attacks on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
"Today, the Ukrainian government has escalated their attack on the UOC shutting down domestic sources that cover their brazen attack on followers of Christ," wrote the lawyer on April 7.
Robert Amsterdam speculated that actions against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church may be aimed at diverting attention from real problems in the country.
"Makes you wonder if this is a deflection from the trial exposing corruption at highest levels!" he noted.
Earlier, the lawyer reacted to the arrest of Artem Shilo, the former head of the SBU department investigating cases against businesses, and former advisor to the President's Office. He is suspected of organizing a corruption scheme worth UAH 95 million in Ukrzaliznytsia.
"When people this senior in the government are allegedly involved in such staggering corruption, you know that the rot goes a lot deeper," the human rights defender suggested.
As reported by the UOJ, in Ukraine, the National Commission blocked websites covering the activities of the UOC.
