Former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will be a key guest at the International Archons Conference in Athens, Greece, as reported on the "Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate" website.

The conference, dedicated to human rights, democracy and religious freedom, will be held at the behest of Patriarch Bartholomew, the Phanar head, on 26-29 May 2024.

"The Archons have long been a bulwark in the defense of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and of people of faith around the world," the website quoted the former US secretary of state as saying.

"As we confront a rising tide of religious persecution and conflict around the world, and I am proud to continue contributing to the important work of the Archons," said Mike Pompeo.

“Secretary Pompeo placed religious freedom front and center during his tenure at the Department of State," said Archon Dr. Antonios Liberakis. "We are honored to have such a distinguished speaker address the 4th Archon Conference on Religious Freedom."

The agenda of the conference, as the organizers inform, will cover, among other things, the protection of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the role of religion in global geopolitics.

Members of the organisation declare "focus on defending religious freedom for everyone and securing the future of the Ecumenical Patriarchate".

As reported by UOJ, the US State Department has stated concerns about censorship and persecution of journalists in Ukraine.
