On August 10 at 10:00 AM, activists from the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) plan to launch a church raid of the St. George's Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) in Kaniv. According to the Dozor_kozak1 Telegram channel, the Cherkasy Regional State Administration has granted permission to hold a meeting, allegedly on behalf of the UOC religious community.
"The initiator of the meeting, supposedly on behalf of the parishioners, is a certain Nadiya Kovalenko. The clergy of the cathedral and the parishioners firmly state that this woman has no connection to the religious community," the report says.
According to journalists, employees of state-funded institutions and Protestant communities from the city are expected to attend the meeting. The source also mentioned that a cleric from the OCU, Serhiy Nikitin, is urging Protestants to participate in the gathering.
The channel notes that this has caused public outrage, as people refuse to participate in what they consider illegal activities.
"The UOC parishioners are justifiably concerned about the possible assault on the sanctuary by raiders and are asking for everyone's prayerful support," the journalists concluded.
As reported by the Union of Orthodox Journalists (UOJ), according to an MP, all raiders will be punished regarding the attempted seizure of a UOC church in Yasynia.
