Volodymyr Paniotto, the General Director of the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS), shared his opinion in an interview with the Focus publication on the potential migration of people from less developed countries, such as Afghanistan and African countries, to Ukraine as one possible solution to the demographic crisis in the country.
He noted that adapting these migrants would require a significant amount of resources, and even with such efforts, it would take a long time for them to become a full-fledged part of Ukrainian society.
Paniotto emphasized that Ukraine currently lacks a culture of accepting African migrants, which has already developed in other countries. According to him, it would be more beneficial for Ukraine to focus its efforts on bringing back its population that left the country during the warfare rather than adapting migrants from countries with different cultures.
As reported by the UOJ, according to the Institute of Demography and Social Research of the National Academy of Sciences, Ukraine’s population may decrease to 28.9 million by 2041, and to 25.2 million by 2051.
