Donald Trump announced that there would be no place for former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former U.S. Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley in his future administration. The newly elected president wrote this in his Truth Social account, thanking them for their service: "I very much enjoyed and appreciated working with them previously, and would like to thank them for their service to our Country."

Mike Pompeo, who served as Secretary of State and head of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) during Trump’s first term, played a key role in foreign policy matters. One of the projects he oversaw was supporting the creation of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU). In 2021, while still Secretary of State, Pompeo stated that he personally contributed to the international recognition of the OCU and made efforts for the United States to support this process. Additionally, the former Secretary of State is one of the most well-known advocates of a tougher stance on Russia, while increasing military assistance to Ukraine. American media previously reported that he was expected to become Secretary of Defense under Trump.

As reported by the Union of Orthodox Journalists, Mike Pompeo believes that authorities should "push" the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) out of Ukraine.
