The leader of "European Solidarity", Petro Poroshenko, expressed his discontent on Facebook over the majority of the Verkhovna Rada skipping work on January 7, which he attributed to the celebration of Christmas according to the Julian calendar.
According to the former president, MPs from his faction came to the Rada fully prepared to work, only to “be surprised to find that the Verkhovna Rada decided to celebrate Moscow Christmas.”
In Poroshenko’s opinion, the Christmas season had already concluded on January 6 with the Feast of the Epiphany (according to the Revised Julian calendar), and members of parliament should not have taken the day off.
Petro Oleksiyovych firmly stated that, given the difficult conditions on the frontlines, taking a break is unacceptable for MPs.
Earlier, UOJ reported that a lawyer demanded Poroshenko clarify whether he still holds the title of "deacon" in the UOC.
