NEW YORK—In a pastoral letter dated May 27, 2025, and released to parishes on May 28, His Eminence Metropolitan Saba of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America has called on the faithful to prayerfully identify and support qualified candidates for election to the Archdiocesan Board of Trustees.

The letter, to be read from the pulpit and printed in parish bulletins, comes in advance of the 57th Archdiocesan Convention, which will be held this summer in Chicago. Metropolitan Saba’s message centers on the theological foundation of lay participation in church governance, describing the royal priesthood as a “divine gift granted to all believers” and a calling to glorify God in thought, word, and deed.

“Humanity was created to glorify God… and show forth the love of God with all their strength,” he wrote. In that spirit, the Metropolitan urged clergy and laity alike to seek out “men and women of integrity and commitment” within their communities to stand for election.

Nomination forms, co-signed by the candidate’s parish priest, must be submitted to the Nominating Committee by July 1. The criteria and forms are available in the official notice accompanying the letter.

Metropolitan Saba concluded with thanks for the faithful’s attention and prayers, expressing hope that this election season will be marked by dedication, discernment, and service to the Church.
