SOFIA — The Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church has officially expressed its support for the “March for the Family,” to be held on June 14, 2025, starting at 6:00 p.m. in front of the Patriarchal Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky.
In a statement, the Synod describes the march as a response to the “aggressive propaganda of sin,” such as the so-called gay pride movement. The Church calls on the faithful to bear witness to the Christian virtue of chastity, both before and within marriage.
Here is the full message from Patriarch Daniel, which first appeared on the website of the Bulgarian Patriarchate:
The Bulgarian Orthodox Church – Bulgarian Patriarchate, guided by its sacred duty to the people entrusted to it by God, always upholds God's design for humanity, together with its highest dignity and purpose, and points to the path of salvation, which was handed down to it by the Savior of mankind.
Every year, the Holy Synod raises its voice in disagreement with the propaganda of sin, which is essentially what the so-called “gay pride” represents. In the face of this aggressive display and propaganda, we always call on the faithful children of our Holy Church to respond with the dignity of virtue. Chastity and honorable married life are God-blessed paths to salvation.
Encouraging Orthodox Christians and all people to acquire and affirm these virtues, the Holy Synod expresses its support for the March for the Family, which will take place on June 14 (Saturday), 2025, starting at 6:00 p.m., in front of the Patriarchal Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky. The march is organized by civic associations and is held under the auspices of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church – Bulgarian Patriarchate.
We call on Orthodox Christians and all people who recognize the importance of the traditional institution of marriage and the upbringing of children in healthy Christian families to join the march.
We call for God's blessing upon all participants and benefactors!
God protect Bulgaria!
