JUNE 17, 2025 — A new Gallup poll reveals that American women are 50% more likely than men to support legal abortion, marking the widest gender gap on the issue in three decades. According to the findings, 61% of women support legal abortion, compared to just 41% of men. Similarly, 57% of women believe abortion is morally acceptable, versus 40% of men.

Despite the divide, overall national support for abortion has declined, dropping from 54% in 2024 to 49% in 2025. The share of Americans identifying as pro-life has grown, with 48% now favoring abortion restrictions or bans, compared to 45% last year.

Overall, 40% of individuals now consider abortions morally unacceptable, with 32% of women and 54% of men identifying as pro-life.

This shift comes amid a wave of new state-level legislative restrictions and growing national debate over the issue. June 24, 2025, will mark three years since the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
