BUDAPEST — During an official visit to Hungary, Arnaud Gouillon, director of the Serbian Office for Public and Cultural Diplomacy, met on June 20, 2025, with Tristan Azbej, Hungary’s State Secretary responsible for aiding persecuted Christians.
On this occasion, Gouillon highlighted the shared mission and background he has with Azbej: both were born in France but have dedicated their lives to protecting Christians who suffer for their faith.
“Helping those who suffer because of their faith is not just a matter of charity but a moral obligation of every society,” Gouillon stated after the meeting. He particularly emphasized the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, noting that Serbs there face prolonged persecution and that Christian cultural heritage is systematically destroyed or appropriated.
Gouillon stressed the need for greater international engagement and emphasized that solidarity with the vulnerable should not be exhausted in declarations but must be followed by concrete actions.
In addition to his meeting with Azbej, Gouillon delivered a lecture at the Matthias Corvinus Collegium, attended by over 7,800 students, gave an interview to Hungarian television channel Hir TV, and met with Zoltán Kovács, spokesperson for the Hungarian Government and advisor to Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
