JULY 15, 2025 — On Monday, several serious accusations were made against online Catholic apologist Alex Jurado, including alleged inappropriate messages exchanged with a minor when he was a 21-year-catechist, and other explicit messages that were shared with various women.
Screenshots of the alleged messages can be found here.
In a post on Instagram on Tuesday, Jurado said:
“I must address the accusations that have been circulating online over the last 24 hours. First and foremost, the accusation that I was having an inappropriate relationship with a 14 year old girl is a complete fabrication. I am treating an accusation of this magnitude with the seriousness that it deserves. I have made my church aware of what is being said about me online and we have contacted the authorities. I am voluntarily cooperating in an investigation that will allow the truth to come to light and that will dispel this awful and vicious rumor. I am also prepared to undergo legal action against those who have defamed me. I must also sincerely apologize to every one who has been hurt, shocked and scandalized by these rumors. It is of great importance that I also acknowledge all of my mistakes, failures and sins. I am a wretched sinner who is in desperate need of God’s mercy as well as in need of the forgiveness of those whom I have offended and sinned against. I must also thank everyone who has reached out to me privately with their support and their prayers, as well as everyone who I’ve seen defend me publicly. I ask for everyone’s prayers in this very turbulent time. May God’s mercy, love and truth always prevail and may He guard all of our hearts always and forever.”
The Voice of Reason YouTube channel has more than 163,000 subscribers and has hosted Orthodox personalities such as Fr. Josiah Trenham and Seraphim Hamilton for discussions on the faith. Recently, Jurado debated Orthodox apologist Ubi Petrus on the topic, “Is the Orthodox Church the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church?”
In response to Jurado’s Instagram post, Petrus took to X and said:
“Does that strike you as accountable or does it strike you as a narcissist who thinks they’re going to get out of this and be back soon if they just say the right things?”
Earlier, on Monday, Petrus posted to “Pray for VOR,” saying that the accusations were extremely disturbing and “appear to be well documented with several accusers having come forth.”
One X user who was sharing the alleged messages from Jurado said that “he was kicked out of Catechism when he got caught,” and alleged that that is why he now attends a Byzantine Catholic church.
Despite initial reports saying that the minor was 14-years-old at the time of the communication from Jurado, that same X user, "limbu97537," later said it would be more accurate to refer to the girl in question as a minor as they could not definitely say the alleged victim was 14.
"The victim has chosen not to provide identification, has declined to press charges, and has since become unresponsive," the aforementioned X user said. "These factors, while frustrating, are important to acknowledge in order to remain within ethical and legal bounds.
The situation is ongoing, and allegations have not been verified. UOJ will have updates as additional information becomes available.
