Openly Gay Catholic Priest Appointed Judge in Marriage Tribunal
SANTA FE — John Wester, the Roman Catholic archbishop of Santa Fe, has reinstated Fr. Steve Rosera, a priest who spent nearly ten years in a civil union with another man.
According to Catholic reporter Chris Jackson:
[Rosera] spent nearly a decade in a court‑registered homosexual partnership, advocated for same‑sex “marriage,” and continues to celebrate “Pride.” Not only reinstated: made a pastor, a dean overseeing thirteen parishes, and (in a move that practically screams mockery) a judge and Defender of the Bond on the marriage tribunal.
As Defender of the Bond, Rosera will hear appeals from Catholics wishing to have their marriages annulled. His duty will be to determine the validity or invalidity of the marriage.
Rosera's parish also has a school attached to it: St. Mary's Catholic School, Albuquerque. Along with the principal, he is named as a member of the school's "leadership."
According to Jackson, Rosera had already been ordained a Roman Catholic priest when he entered into the civil union.
The priest’s official biography says the following: “Feeling the need for some time to discern his vocation further and wanting to make certain of God’s call for him, he decided to take some time away from the active ministry.” It was during this hiatus that Rosera allegedly entered into a relationship with another man.
Abp. Wester is an outspoken supporter of LGBT causes in the Catholic Church.
Jackson also says that “Wester and Rosera reportedly share the same residence.”
LifeSite News and the Lepanto Institute have reported on this story as well.
