Met. Tychikos remains hospitalized in Athens.

ATHENS — The lawyer of Met. Tychikos, Mrs. Poulla, stated in an interview with the Greek television channel ANT1 that her client remains under medical supervision in Athens and is undergoing examinations.

According to the defense, the bishop’s condition is quite serious. “Three or four days ago, when I spoke with him, we couldn’t talk for long because he was in pain. He literally could not speak,” Mrs. Poulla noted.

Based on the results of the examinations, the bishop’s further treatment plan will be determined, including the possibility of his return to Cyprus.

Commenting on the actions of the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus, the lawyer stated that she considers all the procedures against Met. Tychikos to be unlawful. “They have already condemned him with a specific decision. They intend to try him again. What person is tried twice and condemned twice?” she said.

According to the defense, the bishop was “lawfully elected and lawfully appointed, and he has not been convicted of any serious criminal offense or any ecclesiastical offense.” Mrs. Poulla also stated that any new bishop elected in Tychikos’ place would be “an unlawful usurper of the throne.”

At the same time, the lawyer said that she does not intend to challenge the Synod’s decisions in court, as she considers it pointless to appeal to the ecclesiastical authorities, who, in her view, are prejudiced against her client.

Previously, UOJ reported that the faithful in Cyprus had published an open letter in support of Met. Tychikos.
