Abp. Makarios Encourages Orthodox Youth in Sydney
Abp. Makarios urged Orthodox youth in Australia to seek Christ as the true source of peace and hope amid global uncertainty.
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA — Abp. Makarios of Australia met with young participants of the GO Youth initiative of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia in New South Wales on March 10, marking the beginning of the new year of Orthodox youth activities.
The gathering began with the Blessing of the Waters service at the Church of the Resurrection of Christ. The archbishop was joined by Bp. Christodoulos of Magnesia, Chief Secretary of the Holy Eparchial Synod, and clergy from across the city of Sydney.
Following the service, Abp. Makarios addressed the youth, reflecting on the suffering, violence, and uncertainty many young people see in the world today. He encouraged them to seek deeper meaning in Christ, emphasizing that moments of crisis can lead to a renewed search for God.
He also spoke about the Christian understanding of peace, explaining that true peace is not merely the absence of conflict but a living communion with Christ. Encouraging the youth to remain active in the life of the Church, he urged them to seek Christ through prayer and the sacraments.
Previously, the UOJ reported that an Australian court awarded $300K to Abp. Makarios.
