SAN FRANCISCO, CA — The Western American Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR) has requested prayers for the health and recovery of Abp. Kyrill of San Francisco and Western America following complications after a medical procedure.
According to an announcement from the diocese, Abp. Kyrill underwent a heart ablation on June 16. Church officials said he was initially recovering well after the procedure and was reported to be feeling well during the immediate post-operative period.
However, his condition changed overnight. The diocese stated that at approximately 1 a.m. on June 17, Abp. Kyrill was admitted to an emergency ward after experiencing complications. No further details about the nature of those complications or his current medical status were released.
The announcement noted that the Archbishop has personally requested the prayers of clergy and faithful throughout the Western American Diocese and beyond. Supporters have been asked to remember him in their private prayers and church services as he recovers.
Abp. Kyrill has served as the ruling hierarch of the Western American Diocese and is a well-known figure within Orthodox Christian communities across the United States. Church leaders have not indicated when additional updates on his condition may be provided.
