Holy Virgin Cathedral Blesses New St. John Community Center
Holy Virgin Cathedral has dedicated a new community center designed to support education, outreach, and fellowship for future generations.
SAN FRANCISCO — The Holy Virgin Cathedral “Joy of All Who Sorrow” celebrated the blessing of its new St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco Richmond Community Center on June 20, marking a significant addition to the parish’s educational and outreach ministries.
The blessing service was led by Bp. Peter of Seattle, who was joined by clergy of the cathedral. Liturgical hymns for the occasion were sung by the Holy Virgin Cathedral Choir under the direction of Vladimir Krassovsky, adding to the festive atmosphere surrounding the dedication of the new facility.
Following the service, parishioners and guests gathered for an open house, where they toured the building and learned about its intended role in the life of the parish. Cathedral leaders explained that the center will provide space for youth programs, educational initiatives, missionary efforts, cultural activities, and community fellowship.
The event also gave attendees an opportunity to meet with clergy and fellow parishioners while enjoying refreshments and guided tours of the new center. Organizers expressed hope that the facility will strengthen parish life and provide expanded opportunities for ministry in the years ahead.
The new community center is named in honor of St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco, whose legacy remains closely connected to the cathedral and the spiritual life of the Russian Orthodox faithful in Northern California.
Previously, the UOJ reported that St. Barnabas unveiled plans for new worship and community facilities.
