Patr. Theodore Congratulates Newly Elected Abp. Apostolos of Canada
Patr. Theodore has welcomed Abp. Apostolos to his new ministry with a call to lead Canada’s faithful through unity, service, and humble witness to Christ.
ALEXANDRIA, EGYPT — Patr. Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa has sent a congratulatory Patriarchal letter to newly elected Abp. Apostolos of Canada, offering prayers and encouragement as he begins his new archpastoral ministry.
Expressing the joy of the Church of St. Mark, Patr. Theodore welcomed Abp. Apostolos’ unanimous canonical election by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and proclaimed him “Axios.” He said the confidence placed in the new Archbishop by Patr. Bartholomew and the Synod represented both a great honor and a serious responsibility.
The Patriarch described the Archdiocese of Canada as a living center of Orthodox faith and Greek Orthodox tradition, expressing hope that its new hierarch would promote unity, reconciliation, and hope. He also reflected on the demands of episcopal ministry, calling for faithful witness to Christ while meeting the needs of contemporary humanity with pastoral discernment and a spirit of service.
Patr. Theodore also recalled Abp. Apostolos’ Dodecanesian roots and several hierarchs connected with the region. Concluding his letter, he expressed confidence that the new Archbishop would listen to his flock, support his co-workers, and humbly witness to the truth of the Gospel.
Previously, the UOJ reported that Patr. Bartholomew was welcomed with Patr. Theodore to Imbros for the 65th anniversary of his ordination.
