OCA Protodeacon Arrested in Canada Over Alleged 2004 Sexual Assault
Jesse Isaac, serving at St. Olga of Alaska Orthodox Church in Edmonton, was arrested July 18 and released under confidential bail conditions. His next court hearing is scheduled for September 2.
EDMONTON — Jesse Isaac, 43, was arrested on July 18, 2026, on the charge of an alleged sexual assault that took place on or around October 1, 2004, in Edmonton, Alberta, which has no statute of limitations for sexual assault offenses. Isaac, a protodeacon of the Orthodox Church in America's (OCA) Archdiocese of Canada, serves at St. Olga of Alaska Orthodox Church in Edmonton.
When contacted by UOJ-America for a statement, the OCA elected not to comment. According to court documents from the Alberta Court of Justice, Isaac was released the same day as his arrest under confidential bail conditions, and his next hearing is scheduled for September 2, 2026.
St. Olga's parish website states that Isaac was ordained to the diaconate by Abp. Irenee of Ottawa and Canada in 2011 and elevated to the rank of protodeacon in 2015. In 2013, he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir, III Class, by Patr. Kirill of Moscow.
From April 3-10, 2025, Isaac was suspended from all diaconal functions. The cause of the suspension is unknown.
