Metr. Theodosy has been hospitalized under cardiologists’ supervision as the faithful are called to pray for his recovery.
CHERKASY, UKRAINE — Metr. Theodosy of Cherkasy and Kaniv has been hospitalized following an urgent referral from cardiologists, according to an announcement from the Cherkasy Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC).
The diocese reported on June 22 that physicians determined the hierarch required immediate hospitalization and observation by medical specialists. Few details regarding his condition were released, though church officials indicated that the decision was made on an urgent basis following a medical evaluation.
As reported by UOJ-Ukraine, news of the Metropolitan’s hospitalization prompted calls for prayer throughout the diocese. Clergy and faithful were encouraged to remember their ruling bishop in their personal prayers and during church services as he undergoes treatment and medical supervision.
In a statement, the eparchy asked believers to intensify their prayers for the archpastor’s recovery. “We ask the Lord to strengthen the health of our dear bishop!” the announcement said.
Metr. Theodosy has led the Cherkasy Eparchy through a number of challenges in recent years and remains one of the most prominent hierarchs of the UOC. Parishioners and clergy alike have expressed concern for his health and hope for his swift recovery.
Previously, the UOJ reported that Abp. Elpidophoros was briefly hospitalized during his visit to Thessaloniki.
