Met. of Korea: 'Greek Church Needs Re-Evangelization'

SEPTEMBER 8, 2025 — On Sunday, Met. Ambrosios of Korea celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Monastery of Chrysopigi in Chania, sharing insights on his mission to spread Orthodox Christianity in Asia.

Speaking to local media, he reported that approximately 4,000 Koreans have been baptized, with seven parishes, two monasteries, and a publishing house actively supporting the faith. He noted a growing interest among young Koreans and Japanese eager to embrace Orthodoxy.

“In a nation with religious freedom and high suicide rates, we have a duty to share Orthodoxy’s message of life and Resurrection,” Met. Ambrosios emphasized.

Addressing challenges in Greece, he expressed concern over the increasing disconnection from the Church, advocating for robust catechesis over superficial engagement. “The Greek Church needs re-evangelization. Many are baptized as infants but lack systematic teaching,” he said.

Met. Ambrosios’ visit underscores the global outreach of Orthodoxy while highlighting the need for renewed spiritual education in Greece to strengthen faith and community ties.
