Historic Consecration of Holy Anargyroi Chapel at St. Nicholas Shrine

Flushing, NY — On November 14-15, 2025, the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Shrine Church in Flushing welcomed hundreds of faithful for the solemn consecration of its new Holy Anargyroi Chapel, a long-awaited spiritual milestone for the Queens parish.
Friday evening’s Great Vespers was led by His Grace Bsp. Nektarios of Diokleia, who unveiled precious relics of the Five Martyrs of Samothrace.
The following morning, His Eminence Abp. Elpidophoros of America presided over the Divine Liturgy and officiated the consecration, joined by pastor Fr. Aristidis Garinis, retired pastor Fr. Paul Palesty. clergy from across the region, and
During the ancient rite, the martyrs’ relics were sealed beneath the new altar, continuing the apostolic tradition of placing holy remains under the Table of the Lord.
Addressing the congregation, Abp. Elpidophoros praised the community’s sacrificial generosity and vision, declaring the chapel “a jewel-box shimmering with the glory of Byzantium” where heaven and earth now meet in prayer.
Recently, the UOJ reported that His Eminence joined Catholicos Aram I to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the latter's enthronement.
