On the day of Theophany, a rainbow appeared over the Jordan River at the site of the Baptism of the Saviour. The phenomenon was captured by Archpriest Igor Pchelintsev, a cleric of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem, a sacrist of the Metochion of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul and Righteous Tabitha in Tel Aviv-Jaffa. He took the photo on the territory of the pilgrimage residence at the site of the Baptism of our Lord in Jordan. The photos were posted on his personal Facebook page.
“At the site of the Baptism of the Savior right now,” the priest wrote on the social network.
“God, how blessed!” responded users.
The rainbow is repeatedly mentioned in the Holy Scriptures. It symbolizes forgiveness, deliverance from sorrows. For example, in the story of Noah, so that people who survived the flood would not perceive rain as the beginning of catastrophe and death, the Lord backed up his promise with a visible symbol – a rainbow:
“And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.” (Genesis 9:14-15).
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that stunning photos of clouds over Athos were posted on the Web.
