Church of Alexandria’s delegation complains to Phanar about Russian Church

Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople received a delegation of the Church of Alexandria at his residence in Phanar, reports romfea.gr.

It included Metropolitans Gregory of Cameroon and Ioannis of Zambia, as well as Bishop Prodrom of Touliar. The hierarch of the Greek Church, Metropolitan Ignatios of Dimitriada, also attended the meeting.

The hierarchs of the Church of Alexandria presented Patriarch Bartholomew with a message from Patriarch Theodore II on how the Patriarchate of Alexandria assesses the creation of the Patriarchal Exarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church in Africa.

It’s noteworthy that it was the Phanar’s position whereby the Patriarch of Constantinople could consider appeals from other Churches, including from Ukrainian schismatics, that served as one of the reasons for the crisis in Universal Orthodoxy, which began in 2018. The Russian Church explained why the right of the Patriarch of Constantinople to consider appeals does not extend to other Local Churches. It is also worth mentioning that the title of “Judge of the Universe” belongs to the Patriarch of Alexandria, who now turns to Phanar.

Earlier it was reported that the Alexandrian delegations will go to the ancient Local Churches with a presentation of their vision of the developments in Africa.

The UOJ examined the accusations of the Patriarchate of Alexandria against the Russian Orthodox Church.
