Fanar: Alexandria's decision on OCU's for disrespectful of Orthodox ethics

On October 9, 2022, the head of the Phanar, Patriarch Bartholomew, stated that the recognition of the OCU by Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria was a response to those who do not respect the ethical principles of Orthodoxy, the Romfea publication reports.

Patriarch Bartholomew sent a message to Patriarch Theodore, who had received the Athenagoras Prize at the New York Hilton Hotel on October 9.

The head of the Phanar stressed that the award, presented to Patriarch Theodore by the “archons” of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, was “deserved and fair.”

He specifically noted Patriarch Theodore's recognition of the "autocephaly" of the OCU, stating that it was "a powerful response to those who do not respect the ethical principles of Orthodoxy." He also added that the winner of the Athenagoras Prize is "a true defender of human freedom."

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that according to Archbishop Elpidophoros, because of the OCU, the Church of Alexandria received a “war” from the Russian Orthodox Church.
