Society of St. John Meets with Rep. Darrell Issa
Issa, who is Antiochian Orthodox himself, spoke with the pan-Orthodox delegation about the persecution of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Another meeting between a U.S. Representative and Orthodox clergy under the auspices of the Society of St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco took place on Capitol Hill yesterday, Nov. 19, 2025, as the pan-Orthodox delegation discussed the persecution of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) with Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA).
In a post on X, Catherine Whiteford, who also serves as co-Chair of the Young Republican National Fedration, said:
"We are grateful for his leadership as Vice Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and, as an Antiochian Orthodox Christian himself, for his deep understanding of the challenges faced by persecuted Christians around the world. Thankful for the conversation and his commitment to defending religious freedom."

This follows a meeting with U.S. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna earlier this week.
Previously, UOJ reported that Rep. Joe Wilson said Orthodox Christians in America "could serve as vehicles" of foreign influence.
