Wave of Conversions Continues with Mass Baptism in Houston
Fifteen people were baptized at an Antiochian Orthodox parish in Houston, reflecting the continuing growth of Orthodox Christianity in the United States.
HOUSTON, TX — Fifteen new faithful were received into the Orthodox Church through baptism over the weekend at St. Joseph Antiochian Orthodox Church in Houston, marking another sign of continued growth within American Orthodoxy.
Archpriest Joseph Honeycutt, rector of the parish, announced the event on social media, writing, “Baptized 15 yesterday. May the Lord bless!” The baptisms took place during the parish’s regular liturgical life and were celebrated by the local community as a moment of joy and thanksgiving.
According to the parish’s website, St. Joseph Orthodox Church is currently guiding an additional 56 catechumens—those formally preparing for reception into the Church—indicating sustained interest and ongoing formation.
The Houston baptisms reflect a broader pattern seen across the United States in recent years, as Orthodox parishes report increased numbers of converts. Similar growth has been noted at Holy Theophany Church (Orthodox Church in America) in Colorado Springs, Colorado, underscoring a nationwide trend of renewed engagement with Orthodox Christianity.
