Metr. Tikhon Presides at Funeral for Bp. Seraphim
Metr. Tikhon led funeral services in Yonkers for Bp. Seraphim, honoring his life and ministry before his burial in Cambridge, New York.
YONKERS, NY — His Beatitude Metr. Tikhon presided on February 16, 2026, at the funeral services for His Grace Seraphim (Sigrist), former Bishop of Sendai, at Holy Trinity Church.
Concelebrating were Abp. Michael, clergy of the Diocese of New York and New Jersey, and representatives of St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary. The Order for the Burial of a Hierarch was served Monday evening, preceded by remembrances offered by Archpriest Michael Meerson. Metr. Tikhon concluded the service with words of condolence, reflecting on Bp. Seraphim’s life and ministry.
On February 17, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated with numerous clergy and faithful in attendance. Archpriest David Kossey delivered a brief eulogy following the service. A mercy meal followed, and Bp. Seraphim was laid to rest at New Skete Monastery in Cambridge, New York.
