Bp. John of Caracas to Make Historic Visit to Alaska
Hierarchs from Alaska and South America will gather for Divine Services and fraternal fellowship during Bp. John’s historic visit to the Diocese of Sitka and Alaska.
HOMER, AK — The Diocese of Sitka and Alaska will welcome His Grace Bp. John of Caracas and South America for a historic visit and concelebration with His Eminence Abp. Alexei of Sitka and Alaska. The fraternal gathering will bring together Orthodox hierarchs from two distant regions of the Church.
The faithful are invited to participate in the Divine Services surrounding the visit. The first services will be held at the Church of the Holy Transfiguration in Homer, with a Hierarchical Vigil scheduled for Thursday, September 10, at 5 p.m.
A Hierarchical Divine Liturgy will follow at 9 a.m. on Friday, September 11. After the services in Homer, the weekend’s remaining Divine Services and activities will move to St. Tikhon of Moscow Russian Orthodox Church in Anchorage.
The Diocese described the gathering as a witness to the unity of the Orthodox Church despite the vast geographic distance separating Alaska and South America. The meeting will emphasize the common life of Orthodox Christians through one Faith, one Eucharist, and one Lord Jesus Christ.
The Diocese of Sitka and Alaska said the visit provides an opportunity for prayer and fellowship among the hierarchs and faithful. Communications and media inquiries regarding the gathering may be directed to the diocesan communications secretary.
Previously, the UOJ reported that the Yukon conference brought prayer, ordination, and rejoicing to Alaska faithful.
