National Philoptochos Draws Record Attendance at 2026 Convention

CLEVELAND, OHIO — More than 385 delegates from across the United States gathered in Cleveland for the 2026 National Philoptochos Biennial Convention, the largest attendance in the organization's history, celebrating four days of worship, philanthropy, education, and fellowship under the theme "Rise and Build: Women Leading, Inspiring, and Impacting the World."

Held June 29 through July 2 with the blessing of Abp. Elpidophoros of America, the convention brought together representatives from Philoptochos chapters nationwide to conduct the organization's business while highlighting ministries serving the Church and society. Delegates approved the National Philoptochos 2026-2028 budget and adopted eight of 12 proposed resolutions after extensive discussion guided by a professional parliamentarian and electronic voting system.

The gathering featured presentations from Orthodox hierarchs, clergy, and ministry leaders addressing topics including hunger and homelessness, prison ministry, missionary outreach, trauma-informed community service, and the work of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. A message from Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew was shared with attendees.

Delegates also took part in the Joint Opening of the Clergy-Laity Congress, celebrated the Divine Liturgy with more than 1,000 worshippers, and enjoyed fellowship during events at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and aboard Cleveland's Goodtime III. The convention concluded with the AGAPE Awards Breakfast, recognizing nine Philoptochos chapters from the Archdiocesan District and the eight metropolises for outstanding ministry and service.

Among the convention's most visible charitable initiatives were teddy bears donated by Philoptochos chapters in the Metropolis of Pittsburgh for local emergency medical personnel and first responders to distribute to children experiencing trauma during emergency calls. The project reflected the organization's enduring commitment to compassionate service both within the Church and throughout local communities.
