Patr. Porfirije Appears in New Documentary on St. Sava

BELGRADE, SERBIA — Serbian Patr. Porfirije has participated in the filming of a new documentary film and series dedicated to St. Sava, the first Archbishop and enlightener of Serbia, recording the opening and closing scenes in the crypt of the Church of St. Sava before the monumental fresco depicting Serbian saints.

The project, directed by Dr. Željko Mirković, seeks to present the life and legacy of St. Sava as a spiritual guide, educator, diplomat, and unifying figure whose influence continues to shape Serbian identity. Patr. Porfirije’s appearance is intended to provide a spiritual dimension to the production, emphasizing the saint’s enduring importance and the need to preserve his teachings, strengthen unity, and nurture the legacy of the Serbian Church’s founder.

The documentary and series are being filmed at significant locations in Serbia, Mt. Athos, and the United States, highlighting the worldwide impact of St. Sava’s mission. Producers said the project aims to connect historical heritage with contemporary audiences by showing the relevance of his message of faith, education, love, and responsibility.

Produced by Optimistic Film and Telekom Srbija, the production includes contributions from scholars, filmmakers, and cultural institutions. Dr. Mirković, an internationally recognized documentary filmmaker and professor at the University of Connecticut, leads the project, which organizers described as a lasting cultural and spiritual testimony for future generations.
