St. Tikhon’s Hosts Church Choir Director Training Workshop

WAYMART, PA — St. Tikhon’s Monastery welcomed 27 musicians from around the country for “Church Choir Director 101,” a weekend workshop held September 25–27 and led by Music Program Director Juliana Woodill.

The first music workshop of the 2026–2027 academic year was designed especially for those new to directing an Orthodox church choir or seeking to strengthen their foundational skills. Participants received practical instruction in giving pitches, conducting techniques, organizing service music and liturgical resources, leading vocal warm-ups, and planning productive choir rehearsals.

A central part of the workshop was hands-on practice. Participants took turns conducting one another and received individual feedback from Woodill, allowing them to apply newly learned techniques in a supportive environment while building confidence in their leadership abilities.

The weekend also included daily participation in services at the monastery church, time to explore the monastery grounds and bookstore, and opportunities to meet members of the St. Tikhon’s community. Organizers expressed gratitude to those who traveled to attend and said another music workshop is planned for November.
