Abp. Christophoros of Kyriakoupolis led a major Theophany celebration at the Jordan River, calling for peace and unity before Jordanian officials and thousands of pilgrims.

JORDAN RIVER — Thousands of Christian pilgrims gathered on the eastern bank of the Jordan River on January 16, 2026, for the celebration of the Royal Hours and the Great Blessing of the Waters at the traditional site of the Baptism of Christ. The event marked one of the largest Christian assemblies in the region in recent years, drawing more than 7,000 faithful from across Jordan.

The service was presided over by Abp. Christophoros of Kyriakoupolis, accompanied by numerous clergy and attended by high-ranking government officials. In his address, the Archbishop conveyed greetings to Jordan’s political leadership, as well as to Christians and Muslims alike, and expressed appreciation for the Armed Forces and security services.

Abp. Christophoros said he prays for King Abdullah II and Crown Prince Hussein, offering special thanks to Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad. Conveying a message from Patr. Theophilos III of Jerusalem, he invited Christians worldwide to visit the Jordan River. He concluded with an appeal for peace and understanding in a world troubled by war.

Previously, the UOJ reported that Jordan will invest $100 million in Theophany pilgrimage project.
