Seven Tonsures Mark Solemn Night at Jordanville Monastery
Seven men were tonsured in Jordanville, with both new monks and seasoned monastics advancing in rank.
JORDANVILLE, NY — On March 31st, seven monastic tonsures were performed at Holy Trinity Monastery following the evening Compline service, marking a significant spiritual event for the monastic community of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.
The rite was led by His Grace Bp. Luke of Syracuse, abbot of the monastery. Earlier in the day, the faithful also gathered for the sacrament of Holy Unction, adding to the solemnity of the occasion.
Three novices—Christos, Chad, and Dimitri—were tonsured as rassophore monks. Four rassophore monks were elevated to the small schema: Fr. Nicholas (now Fr. Hilarion), Fr. Seraphim (now Fr. Theophan), Fr. Peter (now Fr. Patrick), and Fr. Vladimir (now Fr. Seraphim).
Previously, the UOJ reported that the Albanian Church invited the faithful to witness a monastic tonsure in Massachusetts.
