All-Ukrainian Council of Churches calls to establish fair independent judiciary
On May 17 a regular meeting of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (AUCCRO) was held. It is reported by the Information and Education Department of the UOC.
Particular attention was paid to the problems of state-confessional relations. The participants discussed measures the AUCCRO should take to promote traditional family values in the society, as well as the possible planned activities of the International Council for the current year.
The meeting was addressed by the judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Petro Stetsiuk, who spoke about the challenges and features of the judicial reform.
Following the discussion, Council members adopted a statement in which they stressed the importance of joint effort in the establishment of an independent and fair judiciary in the state and expressed readiness for dialogue and cooperation with the leaders and the judiciary in Ukraine.
The spokespersons of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church at the meeting were the Deputy Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the UOC Archpriest Nikolai Danilevich and DECR staff members of the UOC Archpriest Vitaly Polishchuk and V.V. Gorzov. Aside from representatives of the denominations, the meeting was attended by representatives of the relevant public authorities and invited persons.
