German politologist: Christianity is the foundation on which European future can be built

The future of Europe can be built on the foundation of Christianity, said the German political analyst, scientific director of the German-Russian Forum Alexander Rahr, reports Interfax.

"Now we need to talk about how to create a Europe of different philosophies that can enrich each other, because we still have common roots such as Christianity," said the analyst.

"Now we, in the best case, will be living in a sort of dual Europe, figuratively, historically speaking, in Europe within the borders of the Western Roman Empire and perhaps even the Eastern Roman Empire. Russia, Belarus, eastern Ukraine, even Greece, Bulgaria are countries that will feel different in Europe in the future, and they are likely to have ties with the Byzantine heritage and the other part of Europe – with the Western Roman heritage," he said.
