Patriarch Theophilus is sure: UOC is a basis for One Church in Ukraine

In Jerusalem, the official delegation of the UOC met with Patriarch of Jerusalem, Theophilus III

Head of the Jerusalem Patriarchate beliveves that current problems in Ukraine arise from the public unawareness of the situation related to schism. The words said by the Patriarch during the meeting with an official delegation of the UOC are quoted by the Chancellor of the UOC, Metropolitan Anthony of Borispol and Brovary.

According to Metropolitan Anthony, during the meetings with politicians Patriarch Theophilus constantly stresses that there is only one basis for Ukraine to have a Single Church – a canonical one in the face of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which is known and recognized by the entire Orthodox world.

In a conversation with Metropolitan Anthony, the First Hierarch stressed the importance of finding an opportunity to overcome this schism, and when it is eliminated, the Lord will send Ukraine a long-awaited peace. According to the Patriarch of Jerusalem, the split in Ukraine is a wound that worries not only Ukraine, but the entire Orthodox world.

During the meeting, the Patriarch of Jerusalem also expressed his confidence that His Beatitude Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine Onuphry is the one to cope with the difficult situation the Ukrainian people are facing today.

The meeting of the official delegation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church led by the Chancellor of the UOC Metropolitan Anthony of Borispol and Brovary with Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilus III was held on April 6.
