UOC hierarch of Cross Procession: It was the triumph of Universal Orthodoxy
Metropolitan Anthony (Pakanich) at a briefing
The Cross Procession in Kiev showed the triumph of the Universal Orthodox Church. The Chancellor of the UOC Metropolitan Anthony of Borispol and Brovary spoke of this at a briefing in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, reports a UOJ correspondent.
"Representatives of Local Churches are excited about the Ukrainian people, who love their God, their Church, and about the fact that all these people were able to gather in such numbers today in Kiev," Metropolitan Anthony said at the briefing. "It was the triumph of the Orthodox Church, the Universal Orthodox Church, the earthly and heavenly Church."
Metropolitan Anthony noted that representatives of the Local Churches said that they felt love for the UOC – their sister.
"Feel the pain of our people, the difficulties of the UOC existence. They will pray that God will save the Ukrainian people in peace and grace, and our future will stand on a firm foundation of the Ukrainian canonical Orthodox Church. One of the guests also said that the steps the Ukrainians made on their cross way were counted by angels," the hierarch of the UOC reported.
The Cross Procession on the occasion of the 1030th anniversary of the Baptism of Kievan Rus by St. Prince Vladimir was led by His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry of Kiev and All Ukraine. According to preliminary estimates, about 250,000 people participated in the procession. The hierarchs of the Local Orthodox Church, together with the numerous pilgrims, also walked along the streets of Kiev.
