Joe Biden and the head of the UOC KP Filaret
On September 18, former Vice President of the USA had a meeting with the schismatic "Patriarch" Filaret of the so-called "Kiev Patriarchate", reports the press service of the UOC KP.
Biden, a Roman Catholic, spoke at the meeting of the importance of a single autocephalous Ukrainian Church for the confirmation of Ukrainian statehood and expressed gratitude to Filaret for his work "in spreading spirituality in Ukrainian society, helping the Ukrainian army, fighting against corruption, and so on".
In turn, the schismatic patriarch thanked Biden for his long-term support for Ukraine and awarded him the Order of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir the Great, 2nd Degree.
Earlier, US Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom Samuel D. Brownback met with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in Kiev on September 11, expressing the same support for granting autocephaly to the Ukrainian Church.
Meanwhile, the head of the ROC DECR, Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev) of Volokolamsk said that the US administration is behind the actions of the Patriarchate of Constantinople in Ukraine.
