MPs require Avakov to deploy National Guard in Pochaev Lavra

MPs from “Petro Poroshenko’s Bloc ‘Solidarity’” party

Parliamentarians Taras Yurik, Oleg Barna, and Alexander Dekhtiarchuk demanded that the National Guard of Ukraine should be brought to the Holy Dormition Pochaev Lavra. They made such a statement on November 22 during the briefing at the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, according to raskolam.net.

“Today, together with colleagues Oleg Barna and Alexander Dekhtiarchuk, we appealed to the Minister of Internal Affairs demanding to ensure the protection of public order at the Holy Dormition Pochaev Monastery by the forces of the National Guard of Ukraine. As of today, the protection of the holy place is carried out by some opaque public organization, which cannot basically be vested with the authority to perform security functions. Given possible provocations from representatives of the so-called “Russian world”, we demand to ensure adequate protection by law enforcement forces,” the MPs said.

As the UOJ reported, on November 23, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine canceled the re-registration of the buildings of the Holy Dormition Pochaev Lavra. In turn, Protopriest Alexander Bakhov, Chairman of the Legal Department of the UOC, said that the Pochaev Monastery continues to be in the lawful and legitimate use by the monastery's brethren, despite the decision of the Justice Ministry.
