Eхplosion occurs during the feast service in Sumy Cathedral

An explosion occurred in the Transfiguration Cathedral of Sumy

The incident occurred on the evening of January 18 right during the Divine Service of the feast of Theophany, reports the official website of the Sumy eparchy. The operatives and pyrotechnics specialists arrived at the scene.

Parishioners of the cathedral tend to believe that a daring crime is a direct consequence of the aggressive rhetoric of fomenting inter-religious conflict, which is strongly supported at the official level. The inaction of the authorities and law enforcement agencies especially increases the risk of recurrence of such incidents.

We recall that at the beginning of the year, Sumy became one of the regional centres where right-wing radicals held actions in support of the OCU, urging the believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to enter the newly established religious structure.
In addition, there have been reported a series of arson attacks against UOC temples in the Sumy region.
