OCU states that UOC is its second official name
A lot of people wonder how to properly call the new “Ukrainian Church”
Both the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church are official and correct names for the OCU, the press service of the OCU reported.
“We are often asked us the question: what name – the Orthodox Church of Ukraine or the Ukrainian Orthodox Church – is correct? We emphasize: both of these names are correct and recorded in the relevant official documents. After receiving the Synodal and Patriarchal Tomos on autocephaly, our Church is the only Local and Independent Orthodox Church in Ukraine,” the press service of the OCU said.
Recall that the OCU entered the state register under the double name – the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (the Orthodox Church of Ukraine). The name of the legal entity - “Kiev Metropolis of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Orthodox Church of Ukraine)” – fully coincides with the current name of the canonical Church, led by His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy.
As the UOJ reported, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church appealed to the court with a request to recognize the decision of the Ministry of Culture, obliging it to indicate its affiliation to the Russian Orthodox Church, as unlawful. On March 29, 2019, the Kiev District Administrative Court opened proceedings on the claim having been filed by the UOC.
